Sparkle

IMG_3318IMG_3307 IMG_3310 IMG_3315 IMG_3321 IMG_3329IMG_3316IMG_3325I’ve been watching Sex and the City 2 for a straight week now. It’s perfectly cheesy and fabulous and I love it. Carrie mentions how all she wants in life is just a little bit of sparkle. I have to agree with her. I don’t want the diamond ring type of sparkle but the twinkle in your eye type of sparkle. I want the little things. I can’t even type out what the “little things” are but I know that they are out there, somewhere in the universe, waiting for me. They may be small insignificant things that go unnoticed to most but I live my life around those little things and I sometimes tear myself apart when I don’t get them or when I don’t make them happen. I would like to go out to a breakfast place with my 3 best girlfriends every Saturday dressed up in our Saturday’s brunch best. I would like to wake up every morning, have a cup of tea, read a book, paint my nails, dress in a outfit that came from Vogue magazine, take a taxi to work, style and write for the magazine that I work for, have a candlelight dinner with my boyfriend, take a walk in the rain and finally come home to my bright apartment with exposed brick and pastel colored accents and sit on my fancy mustard yellow couch. I want that kind of lifestyle. A life full of sunshine and sparkle. I’ve been struggling with a few things here and there but mostly the fact that I’m not at THAT point in my life yet. I wish it was here already. I wish that I could fast forward through the doubt, struggle, and tears and just the be the person that I’m meant to me. Anyone with me? In the mean time, I’ll hide these tears with a sequin covered blazer and bright pink lipstick. I guess sparkle only counts if you work towards it right?

Feathered & Feminine

IMG_3190IMG_3198IMG_3186 IMG_3199 IMG_3208 IMG_3210IMG_3197I have been waiting for months and months to find the perfect opportunity to wear this skirt. One of my biggest fears is wasting a fabulous outfit on a not so fabulous day. It’s been beautifully hanging on my clothing rack forever and I’m so very pleased at how it ended up being styled for the first time. I knew the holiday season would be perfect to take this bad boy out. I think this feathered and feminine top was a match made in heaven. I felt like magic walking around in this little number. I love what a good outfit can do to your mood and confidence. I wish I had a party to wear this dress to but out of all the days, I chose to wear this on Black Friday. I had to work on Black Friday, which I didn’t mind one bit because 1) It saved me lot of money while I , simultaneously, was making money. 2) I enjoyed the rush and chaos 3) I got to dress up in my holidays best with my work buddies and make tons of sales. After all the madness, I thought my day couldn’t get any better but then my family and I went and ate out at the Cheesecake Factory. It was an awesome day thanks to this awesome outfit and my family; the only two things a girl really needs to conquer the world.

Something Beautiful

IMG_3068IMG_3059 IMG_3064 IMG_3067 IMG_3077Some days more than others I have this sudden urge to dress like a rainbow. Have you noticed that I haven’t worn an all black outfit in forever? I mean that’s so 2013. Just kidding. But really, I wore nothing but black last year. I was honestly going through a lot, more than a lot, and wearing all black seemed to be easier. I felt depressed so why not be stereotypical and where all black? I’ve done a slight 180 since last year. I love to dress and live life in color. I never want that to change. A rainbow signifies a promise, happiness, and sunshine. Not to be cheesy but I’ve made it through the eye of the storm. I’m ready for the rainbow now. With that said not every day can be unicorns and smiley faces. I will always have those dark cloudy days for as long as I live but it’s about taking that sadness and creating something beautiful out of it. I want to be remembered as sunshine… so I’m gonna dress like it.

I hope everyone has a lovely Thanksgiving. Savor the food but also the moments with your loved ones. Take as many pictures as you can and say your “I love you’s.”

Karissa

I need a break.

IMG_1935 IMG_1936 IMG_1946 IMG_1948 IMG_1951Believe it or not, I don’t like to dress up every-single-day. I’m not even sure if that’s healthy. You need to give yourself a little time out every once in awhile. Put on your favorite pair of ripped up skinny jeans and call it a day my friend. I love days like these a lot because I’m never worried about putting on a show with my outfit. I kind of throw on whatever sounds the comfiest. I still have to be somewhat presentable because I’m usually heading to work or to run errands. I ONLY leave the house looking like a complete slob when it’s past midnight and I’m just headed to the grocery store to grab some chocolate. In and out of Walmart in .30 seconds. That’s the only scenario when it’s right to wear sweats that could fit your boyfriend and a t-shirt that has your dinner from earlier on it. Sadly, that’s some peoples daily wardrobe. Let’s take a moment of silence for those people shall we. Hopefully they find my blog and realize how EASY it is to be comfy but look presentable at the same time. I know most people would choose flats but I’ve honestly trained my feet to wear heels so much that wearing flats might be a struggle. I love my heels. LOVE THEM. A little tip if you’re feeling like your outfit is missing something, always make sure that you give all of your necklaces a little fashion show in the mirror before you make your final outfit decision. Find one that makes you feel beautiful and then I think you’ve found a winner. This outfit would be nothing without this bright orange necklace. (It matches the gorgeous trees behind me.) Ahh…Fall. Why you gotta be so beautiful?

Mixing it up.

IMG_1288 IMG_1293 IMG_1297 IMG_1299 IMG_1305 IMG_1310

There’s a lot of mixed feelings, I mean textures, in this outfit post. Mixing textures and patterns has always been my favorite and easiest thing to do when I’m feeling stuck in a fashion rut. I go to my closet, turn on my creative side of my brain, and get to work. Putting together a tribal print skirt with a black and white striped tee may be a leap of faith of others but for me it’s going to the grocery store. Once you get in the habit of mixing things up and taking small fashion risks, you will eventually build up the courage to rock whatever type of pattern, color, texture, print you feel like. Don’t set boundaries for yourself. Break those chains and wear whatever you feel like wearing, in moderation of course. Maybe don’t step outside the house in your smiley face leggings and One Direction band tee. That’s a no girlfriend, big no.

This day I decided to keep it feminine and keep it Autumn-like. I really don’t have a choice anymore, it’s October. Adding this shimmered linen tee transforms this look. I don’t know how and I don’t know why but it does. I’ve officially swapped out my plain white tee for this gold one. It makes the plainest pair of blue jeans look like a million bucks. It’s a MUST HAVE!
