An Athletic Touch

IMG_8215_2IMG_8213_2 IMG_8217_2 IMG_8227_2 IMG_8228_2 IMG_8233_2 IMG_8246_2 IMG_8254_2I will admit once in awhile that I need to give my feet a little break. Those poor things have gotten beaten up their entire life. After dancing for about 15 years, I went straight to heels. They’ve never ever had a chance to breathe. I started to notice some nerve pain and I restricted myself from wearing any painful shoes for about a week so that my little footsies can recover. It’s nearly impossible for me to pick out an outfit and that outfit not to be elevated by heels. I knew it would be a challenge but I loved how my high school Nike’s saved the day and actually made the outfit really unique and fun. I really love the idea of throwing on some tennis shoes with a really sophisticated outfit. It’s unexpected and you all know I love that! My lovely Nike’s took this look to a sporty level with it’s small but noticeable athletic touch. I was able to do my thing with comfort and sass.

That’s all for now. I’m falling asleep while typing this. It’s been a long day and will be an even longer day tomorrow so I need to get my zzz’s. One thing that I wanted to mention was that I’m reading “Paper Towns” by John Green and OH MY GOSH, I’m hooked. I love reading books before the movie. It’s so satisfying. This is the first book I’ve had the chance to read in a year. I love reading. I don’t know why I ever stopped. If any of you have any recommendations for the next book I should read please feel free to comment below! I really love mysteries and love stories but I’m open to anything.

Styling Shorts In Spring Time

IMG_8131 IMG_8144 IMG_8123 IMG_8143 IMG_8142 IMG_8141 IMG_8130_2Now that Spring is in full motion and we’re all ready to bust out our short shorts, here’s some inspiration for you on those inspiration-less days. I absolutely love wearing sweaters with shorts. I know at some point during the day, whether it be mornings or evenings, I will get a little chilly. Spring time doesn’t guarantee perfect weather so I like to play it safe and hold back on my tank tops just a little bit longer. That, and I just don’t want to say goodbye to my favorite pullovers. To me, the perfect combo is a relaxed sweater, distressed shorts, and my favorite summer heels. It’s a nearly bulletproof combination. If you’re ever in the mood to lightly spruce up your outfit, throw on a long dainty necklace, a fedora and SHA-BANG! You’re looking fine and fierce.

I hardly ever talk about dressing for my body type or your body type because it’s something that I don’t totally agree with. I think no matter what, big or small, curvy or thin, you should wear whatever you feel like wearing. Shapeless dresses, short shorts, or whatever else you can think of that’s controversial and pertains to only certain body types is hoopla to me. I will wear that makes me feel good and THAT’S THAT! I forgot where I was going with that…give me a second…it will come back to me…………………. OH! I was going to say that there are no rules anymore but if you do have an area of your body that you’re not the biggest fan of, there are ways to manipulate it. For example, I’m insecure about my long, thin arms. I don’t like them so I like to find ways to make them go away or look more full. I did that today by wearing a sweater that’s just half a size too big and scrunched it up to my elbows. It’s like magic. Now the focus can go to my legs rather than my arms and I feel so much more confident.

Tip of the Day: Don’t settle for looks that don’t bring out the best in you. We don’t have time for that.

A Pink & Denim Cocktail

IMG_8045IMG_8039 IMG_8075IMG_8052IMG_8046Any kind of cocktail sounds good right about now. (Just a few more months and I can finally enjoy one legally. Hallejua.) Okay, before I get too off track and ramble about alcohol mixtures that I know nothing about, let’s talk about my outfit. I’ve officially brought out my pinks, magentas, and purples. I think April is all about these girly set of colors. It’s that time of the year to love on our floral prints again and rock an eye-catching pink skirt. Why? Because we’re girls, that’s why. There’s something about a floral print on a guy that makes me mumble underneath my breath, “Yesssssss.” The contraction mixed with the masculinity makes most girl swoon. Or maybe it’s just me, I don’t know. It’s like a guy saying, “Hey. I can be sensitive and I like flowers too.” If only I could get Wyatt to wear even the most subtle floral print top. He would throw a fit.

What I love about the month of April is that natures beauty and color comes back alive. I’m all giddy inside knowing that the trees are blooming again. “A fresh beginning” takes a whole new meaning when the flowers and trees say hello to us after months and months of absence. Speaking of fresh beginnings, I possibly have a few new, exciting, and life-changing beginnings this month that involve my work and some other personal things. I only hope and pray that these beginnings challenge me in the best kind of way and help me become the person that I’m meant to be. I already know that there will be a few trial and error moments but I think I can handle a few set backs considering what I’ve been through the past 3 years. I’m more excited/nervous at what’s about to go down in my personal life and I hope someday I can have the courage to share it with all of you. I’ve been vlogging every step so far and even if the video never sees the light of day, I only hope that it has a good ending.

What Spring Is All About

IMG_7972 IMG_7950 IMG_7941 IMG_7942 IMG_7952 IMG_7918 IMG_7939Happy Easter!

Pastels are on trend more than ever right now. I’ve haven’t entirely let go of pastels so when they eventually come back around, I’m fully prepared. I’ve stocked up over the years so I have plenty of light pink and baby blue to spare. I’ve preached my love for the light wash combo of colors time and time again. We all know that if I could paint my own world it would be in pastels, obviously. When I saw this brushstroke top online, my heart skipped a beat. It was made for me. I know I’ll be rocking this top all spring and summer long. I hope more stores embrace this brushstroke/painter vibe because it has “Karissa” written all over it. I dive into all sorts of fashion adventures but after awhile I get bored and move on. I move my gently loved clothing to the back of my closet to only find myself reaching for it months or even years later when they come back alive in the fashion world. Not with pastels. Nope. Never. I keep these babies in the front row. Everyone has a color or a collections of colors that they love to buy and feel good in. Mine are pastels. I’ll tell ya, I sometimes feel prettier in pastels than I do in a ball gown. Their just my thing and I love it. LOVE IT.

For those that aren’t really involved or haven’t emerged themselves into fashion, maybe it’s just because you haven’t fallen for or allowed yourself to fall for your color or your trend. Wanna know how to find the best trend that works for you? You have to try them all out. DUH. Trial and error ladies. It takes stepping out of your comfort zone and emerging yourself into trends that come and go. Start with a top or an accessory. Then once your feel some sort of connection, you move to pants. It may take time to find your “thing” or your place in the world but you’ll get there. You won’t get there by going to same old clothing stores or searching the same old online shops. Try searching something different and starting new.

That’s what spring is all about.

Pink Punch

IMG_7907IMG_7880IMG_7903 IMG_7888IMG_7902 IMG_7892 It’s April 1st but you won’t see me participating in any pranks or jokes. I know, I know…I am so boring. I did want to keep things bright, fun and a little unexpected with this statement neon peplum top from Tobi.com. If this doesn’t scream summer fun than I don’t know what does. I’m just ooh-ing and ahh-ing this structured silhouette to pieces. TOO PEICES! I mean, if you’re feeling like making a statement, or your stuck in a fashion rut, I strongly suggest checking out ShopTobi because their website has some really fun spring/summer items right now. I was definitely in the mood to be bold but still didn’t want to leave the house without my favorite pair of Citizens jeans. I swear these jeans have saved my life on numerous occasions. The high waisted detail makes them so versatile but more importantly, comfortable. I feel safe in them. I hope that makes some sort of sense and if it does you should buy yourself some higher waisted skinny jeans because they are life changing and go with absolutely everything. I only love these jeans when I’m not glued to my boyfriend jeans of course. I always recommend this style to women who are bored of the same old same old low rise straight leg jean. Those are like so five years ago.

P.S. My last blog post received so much love and encouragement and I just wanted everyone who sent uplifting emails to know that I read every word and I really appreciate it. With that being said, I received a few rude and hateful messages from my last blog post which have since been deleted. I’m letting you all know right now that my blog is a place of positivity and love. I want you all to come here looking for inspiration without judgement. Please don’t come to page to take your anger or frustrations out on me. If you have nothing nice to say, don’t say it all. Got it? Good.
