Denim isn’t just about jeans anymore. Oh no girlfriend, it’s 2015 and we wear denim all over: Tops, skirts, shorts, dresses, purses, belts and even shoes. This infamous fabric has officially taken over the fashion scene and I’m not complaining one bit. There is nothing wrong with owning too much indigo, chambray and denim…or at least that’s what I continue to tell myself. I have an abnormal love for denim and all things blue. Every single person on this planet owns a piece of denim in their closet. It’s the number one absolute must-have wardrobe piece. I love to experiment with denim on a daily basis but my favorite thing to do pair denim with (surprise, surprise) even more denim. This look will never go out of style in my opinion. I really think it’s the easiest look to put together in a hurry. How do you glam it up you ask? It’s so simple. A red lip and heels, obviously. I could wear this outfit, and all similar denim on denim outfits, for the rest of my life. If I was a designer (as if) and I had my own collection, you bet it would consist of new twists and takes on modern day denim.
Denim, denim, denim. Have I said that word enough?
There’s a little bit of something sweet in this post. I can’t quite put my finger on it. I don’t know if it’s the nude, glossy lip or the frilly hair accessory but I think a look like this is perfect for my young, high school and/or middle school subscribers. This outfit won’t get you sent to the principles office for being inappropriate, that’s for sure. I know I’ve been sent there once or twice because I totally disagreed on the length of my shorts or dress but we’ve all been there right? This look is conservative, fun and once again…sweet. It’s great inspiration for my younger audience but I can definitely see this ensemble looking fabulous for all ages. I love how well chambray and mustard yellow mesh together. I think this specific color combo is ideal for Spring AND Fall. They are perfect transition colors to make outfitting a lot easier from season to season. Call me an outfit repeater but I’ll be wearing this look during the fall as well. Not to be corny, but I’m going to leave this post as it is, short and sweet. Talk to you all soon. Oh and follow me on Instagram @karissamariie and Twitter @misskaymarie3
It’s official. I’m on the blue team now. I’m so happy that more and more clothing companies are hopping on this Indigo trend because it’s just more for me to buy. I WANT IT ALL. I’ve always been a huge fan of the color blue but now that it’s available everywhere I’ve just been soaking it up more. I almost don’t want to leave the house without the color blue somewhere on my outfit. I need help. Again, this is just another phase in my style life. Everyone goes through them. I was school shopping one year and all I bought were dresses. Nothing but dress. No jeans, no tees. Halfway into the school year I was like, “Okay, I’m so sick of this.” But I always do this to myself. I jump into every fashion adventure with my whole heart. I really dive deep and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. Because in the end, I’m left with great memories and some cute clothes that are mostly timeless. I now have plenty of denim in my closet to last me a lifetime. I really feel like one of the guys. Uh oh, here I go dropping the word menswear but whatever. My brothers would really love this new “not so girly” side of me that I’ve recently discovered. I love my skirts, my blouses, my heels but it’s nice not having to dress up completely in head to girly-ness. It’s nice throwing my hair back and putting on some denim overalls. P.s. I have been on the search for some fabulous overalls for the longest time. I’m so thrilled to have finally found a nice light wash pair. All that’s left to do is discover a dark wash but until then I’ll be rockin’ this one.
If you thought this post had anything to do with the movie “50 Shades of Grey” you can go ahead and click the x at the top right of your screen and get the heck out of here because no sir, no thank you. I will not be “submitted” into that kind of behavior. (Ha. I’m so clever.) No chains or whips could hold me back from wearing an all denim outfit. I’m having so much pun. Okay, I’ll stop. Back to the outfit: I wear denim on denim time and time again because I don’t think this trend ever goes of style. I didn’t want to go overboard on denim today so I threw on my all time favorite sweater to mute out the bursts of blue that’s happening in these shots. The beauty of an all denim look is that you don’t have to stress one bit about what color of lipstick to wear. You could wear a bright yellow lipstick and it would still look good. I chose red because I’m on a red lip kick right now. Keeping it classic is always a good, safe choice. I kept this look casual with converse shoes but had to fancy-it-up a little with a touch of gold aka my purse soulmate.
I have to give you a warning, so here’s my warning: Be prepared to see a whole lot of denim and menswear pieces in the next few months. I don’t know what it is but when my mind is set on something I really go over board with it and buy it all. I’ve been buying nothing but button ups, collared tops, stripes, high waited trousers, denim tops, chambray, etc., the whole sha-bang. It’s gonna be my Spring wardrobe for sure and I’m not gonna apologize for it. I’ll always and forever be a huge fan of menswear. No matter what, it seems like I always have to add a touch of manliness to an outfit. Oh, the contraction. I love it.
So if you’re looking to step out into the world of fashion and are ready to take risks, menswear is the best start ladies! You don’t necessarily have to give up your lipstick (In fact, I encourage you still rock a bold lip) or your tutu skirts. Just slowly start adding these boyish pieces into your wardrobe and daily outfits. Slow and steady wins the race. I swear you will love the never-ending menswear trend, not as much as me of course, but you’ll love it enough to feel comfortable in your own skin while also being on-trend. That’s all for now folks. See you soon.
Hey you! I can’t count how many times I’ve worn this look in the past year, it’s one of my favorite go-to outfits and it truly is universal. If you’re a new york city type of girl or if … Continue reading →
