That Edgy Thing

Today I decided to go for that edgy thing that people go for nowadays. Some pull it off better than others. I think I may be part of that “other” group because being all rocker chic isn’t something I think I’m good at. I do feel tough when I throw on my blacked out combat boots though. That’s the beauty of having all sorts of different styles of shoes. They bring out something in me that’s different every single day. Every shoe in my closet serves a unique purpose, a different meaning. This outfit took me back to 2013 when all I wore were my black skinny jeans and combat boots. This outfit was a normal, almost daily thing for me back then. I have blog posts to prove it. 2015 is all about creams, light grey’s and blush tones. Dressing rocker chic sends a strong message to people that you’re not one to mess with on that particular day. It sends the message that, maybe, you’re in the mood to be a little melancholy. Edgy to me is being mysterious. Who’s that girl in the fur jacket and skinny jeans? Though it may seem that my goal for this outfit was to be very avant-garde, trust me, it wasn’t my first priority. It was just non-inspiring day, the weather wasn’t on my side (dark & gloomy), and my combat boots just happened to be staring me in the face saying “Take me for a walk.” So I did. That’s all that this outfit meant and I just happened to take pictures to capture it. But really, can’t a girl like me, feminine and petite, dress edgy once in awhile and not be questioned? Fashion has all sorts of different faces: Today’s face was edgy. Surprise.

Embrace your edgy side ladies, you don’t have to have it together all day every day. Let your hair down, smudge up your eyeliner, and rock those skinny jeans. The world wants to see you a little irritable and raw once in a while. Perfection is so overrated.

Quirky Prints & Tulle

“Quirky” is a word that I find myself using almost every single day. Weirdly enough, I don’t believe I’ve ever typed that word into a blog post. Well, there’s a first for everything. This pug printed top is the definition of quirky. It’s odd. It’s unconventional and that’s exactly what I’m about. Not to mention the fact that it’s mustard yellow: my all time favorite color. I get stares from a million miles away when I wear this top. I don’t blame them because it really is unexpected. That’s what I love about Anthropologie. I can always count on the designers to make me feel unique. Being out of place sometimes isn’t a bad thing. What do I always say about stepping our of your comfort zone? It will surprise you to find that, yes, you can rock that weird dog printed shirt, and yes, you can take on the world as well. I went overboard (like I normally do) and layered a striped turtleneck underneath. I would have left it there and just threw on some skinny jeans but no, that’s not how I roll. I threw on this eye-catching tulle skirt (as if the top wasn’t bizarre enough) and my outfit was complete. Sticking to the basic black and white and adding a pop of color will never do you wrong. For some strange reason the chaos works. You should try it sometime.

Basic & Minimal

Hair up. Skinny jeans on. I guess I can throw on some heels to give the illusion that I’m trying. Simple and minimal was the look I was striving for because some days I just cannot be bothered. Pulling the hair back and throwing on some basic sleek clothes can be so refreshing. No patterns or prints fogging up my brain. No difficulties with the curling iron. Just an all black outfit with a boyfriend blazer to keep me looking and feeling calm and collected. There was something about this outfit that took me back to Kim Kardashian circa 2010. Before she became a “West.” The days when all she wore were blazers and jeans with hair pinned back into a sleek bun. She had things to do and an empire to build. I bet she couldn’t be bothered with all the hoopla either. Look at her now, no more business attire. Now that she’s reached a level of fame that no one can top, she wears Givenchy to bed. Must be nice. In a way, I’m building my own little empire. Not the same extravagant level like Kim but still a dream nonetheless. I strive every single day to do something for my future. I take a step out of my comfort zone all the time. When I’m not working I’m educating my brain on all things fashion. I still have so much to learn. No, I will never be famous like Kim but someday I WILL go to bed with a full heart and with the feeling of success, just like her. I have a love/hate relationship with the Kardashian fam bam. I think we all do. No matter the drama, they are a family to look up to based on the simple fact that they built an empire so incredible out of nothing.

A Romantic Look

January was an incredible, record setting month for Karissamarieblog.com. Definitely the best month so far based on number of views each day and new subscribers. Not to toot my own horn or anything but we also just hit 8K on Instagram. We’re goin’ places people. We’re doing big things. Thank you all who take the time out of their day to read my little itty bitty posts. You might not know it but you make my day every single time you do. Thank you. I hope, in return, you get inspired after you’re done scrolling through my page. This month I plan to top January. I think we can do it based on the fact that I reach more and more of you every single day. You guys are doing a fabulous job sharing my page with your buddies, please continue to do that. I’m feeling very blessed that I have enough time and drive to post every other day. I hope I can continue do that as long as my schedule and creativity capacity allows it. One more time, thank you. 2015 is off to an incredible start. Yay us.

I wanted to start February with a romantic look. It is the month of love isn’t it? In almost every post leading up to Valentines Day I plan to give you inspiration on what to wear on the big special love bird day. Here’s romantic look #1. I don’t mean romantic as in sexy. Obviously, I’m covered head to toe. I mean romantic as in mysterious and glamourous. (Which is sexy enough to me.) This outfit has no rhyme or reason. I didn’t do much planning. It was one of those “go with the flow” kind of days. The cowled neckline sweater felt a little large around the waist so I decided to belt it. Cinching it in created a flattering hourglass shape which I believe created the “romance” factor. I elevated the look with some red lips, a top knot, and some statement tights. This look took me back to France. I would go back in a heart beat. All my girlfriends and I ate were banana & Nutella crepes. HEAVEN. Oh, how I wish my outfits could take me back to the places that inspired them in the first place.

The more exciting news is that this sweater has pockets…POCKETS!

A Touch of Faux Fur

It was just a basic, laid back look with a touch of faux fur kind of day. Don’t you worry, no animals were harmed during this mini photo shoot. I was having a hard time picking out an outfit on this day. I have days like these once in awhile, we all do. Those days where nothing looks right, you have “no clothes”, everything begins to look the same or even outdated. I tried on a billion different things but nothing seemed to be right. I ended up finding this light moss colored top and I knew that I hadn’t worn it in awhile so I decided to give it a shot and go from there. I’m not the type of girl to wear a top like this with just jeans alone. I knew I had to put my “touch” but I didn’t know how. I finally found this vest, at the very bottom of a pile of clothes, and I knew I had created magic. This little ensemble matched my laid back, relaxed mood perfectly. I threw on my “go to” flats and was out the door to start my day. Oh, and I couldn’t, just couldn’t, forget my red lipstick….obviously.
