Oh No! I’m In A Shopping Rut!

IMG_8592 IMG_8578 IMG_8581 IMG_8588 IMG_8586 IMG_8594 IMG_8580This outfit is full of oldies but goodies. Even though some of the pieces in this look might not be available to purchase I still hope this post gives you some sort of inspiration. How to pair t-shirts with skirts. How to mix textures and prints. How to really step up your girly side. What I love about fashion blogs is that it’s not about buying every single item in their posts from head to toe. It’s really about taking their look, finding similar pieces in your own closet, and creating something completely new, something that’s totally unique and you. I see a lot of people get discouraged about reading fashion blogs and not being able to purchase their look, but I guarantee you already have similar pieces in your closet that you might have neglected.

I’ve been stuck in a shopping rut for the past month and half (I haven’t boughten ANYTHING.) All of my favorite stores from Anthropologie to Zara just don’t have anything out that I’m in love with. Online shopping and in-store shopping has never been so disappointing. I don’t like anything! So desperate times call for desperate measures. When I get in a rut like this, with no new fabulous clothing items to play with, I give a little extra attention to my oldies. This really gives me a chance to REINVENT my own wardrobe and try out new ways to style my favorites.

Style is NOT about buying every new little thing on the market. Don’t stress if you’re not crazy about the current trends or if your not financially ready to buy clothes. What you already own is ready to be taken out into the world in new and exciting ways! Get creative with the clothes you already have. Challenge yourself.

The Culotte Trend

IMG_8491 IMG_8495 IMG_8510 IMG_8496 IMG_8507 IMG_8500What are culottes?

Culottes (•Coo-Lah-Tss•) are garments that hang like a skirt but are actually pants (A divided skirt). This trend has been unstoppable this year and it was the one trend that I never really felt like embracing. I knew if I bought a pair of culottes I would be stepping out my comfort zone and I would probably never wear them. So, I went a bought an affordable pair at Forever21 to get my toes a little wet before just diving in and my first thoughts were “I feel naked” and then those thoughts turned into, “Oh my gosh, I am in love, where can I buy more?” Every single store has displayed their own versions of this wide leg trend so finding a pair shouldn’t be too hard. I really recommend you fashion dare devils to go into a store and try on a pair because they don’t seem like much on the hanger but when you put them on you realize that they’re so fashion forward while being beyond comfortable at the same time. As you can see in this post, I went for a monochromatic look, which is always the safest way to go when trying out new things. Culottes are pretty simple to style. I would tuck in a simple white button up and add bold accessories and throw on a cropped blazer for an extra bonus. I’m currently on the hunt for more culottes to add to my wardrobe. I’ve linked a few of my favorites down below. Be bold, be brave and try out this fabulous trend.

Fashion Blogger On A Break

IMG_8375 IMG_8390 IMG_8383 IMG_8391 IMG_8382 IMG_8373 IMG_8384Here’s a typical Friday night outfit for me. It’s minimal, edgy and sleek. I normally attempt a simple yet striking look like this when Wyatt and I want to have a nice dinner and movie date but lately it seems like I’m stuck in my sweats. I don’t know what my deal is because I’m not someone who lives in loungewear. I think it’s normal to not want to get up, dressed, put makeup on every single day but it’s definitely got my spirits a little down because I’m usually someone who looks like I have it all together (on the outside at least.). I do have a lot, and I mean LOT, going on in my personal life that is making me more and more exhausted so I should just take this time to focus on my insides rather than my appearance. I really think this should just be a reminder to everyone to really focus on your inner health just as much as you focus on your outer beauty. AM I RIGHT LADIES? Whatever junk and bad energy you have going on inside will definitely reflect in your appearance. My mom has always said that looking good and feeling confident on the outside starts with being healthy on the inside. One thing that really makes me feel amazing and also makes my skin glow is coconut water. I’m absolutely loving it. I drink at least one bottle a day to keep me hydrated. That was just a little fitness and health tip that will probably never happen again here on my blog. I’m not someone you should copy your diet after. I eat nothing but bad food mixed with a salad and coconut water here and there. Ha!

I really shouldn’t take these days of sweat pants and hair in bun for granted. Those are the days where I get more stuff done around the house but more importantly, I feel more relaxed and I finally have the time and ability to really focus on my mind, body and spirit.

Let’s just say I’m not a fashion blogger 24/7, I’m also a girl that loves to live in her black leggings and no bra. I need a break too.

P.S. If you don’t follow me on social media than you probably don’t know how ecstatic I am about having a small feature in Marie Claire magazine. Yes. Marie Claire! I was just browsing through the pages late at night and I saw my name at the bottom corner of the page towards to beginning of the book and just FREAKED OUT. My name and my picture are in a fashion magazine. Never thought I would say that. Now I’m just waiting for the day Marie Claire hires me. Wouldn’t that be nice? Screen Shot 2015-04-24 at 5.06.48 PM

Sweet & Simple

IMG_8342 IMG_8352 IMG_8336 IMG_8355 IMG_8334 IMG_8354 IMG_8349

There’s a little bit of something sweet in this post. I can’t quite put my finger on it. I don’t know if it’s the nude, glossy lip or the frilly hair accessory but I think a look like this is perfect for my young, high school and/or middle school subscribers. This outfit won’t get you sent to the principles office for being inappropriate, that’s for sure. I know I’ve been sent there once or twice because I totally disagreed on the length of my shorts or dress but we’ve all been there right? This look is conservative, fun and once again…sweet. It’s great inspiration for my younger audience but I can definitely see this ensemble looking fabulous for all ages. I love how well chambray and mustard yellow mesh together. I think this specific color combo is ideal for Spring AND Fall. They are perfect transition colors to make outfitting a lot easier from season to season. Call me an outfit repeater but I’ll be wearing this look during the fall as well. Not to be corny, but I’m going to leave this post as it is, short and sweet. Talk to you all soon. Oh and follow me on Instagram @karissamariie and Twitter @misskaymarie3

Indigo Girl

IMG_8308 IMG_8319 IMG_8310 IMG_8321 IMG_8305 IMG_8323 IMG_8304 IMG_8309Just call me Indigo Girl.

Here’s yet another post showcasing my obsession with the Indigo trend. Like I said before, I dive head first into trends because that’s the only way to really know what you love and what you don’t love. Indigo? Ya, I love. Some clothing items don’t shine very bright when they’re hanging on a hanger. This romper was one of those pieces. It was displayed as an Indigo blob of nothing important but as it turns out it’s currently one of my favorite pieces in my closet. This is why it is so important to give a piece of clothing a chance and try them on. I don’t know about you but this romper screams spring and summer. I’m pretty sure that I wore this little guy 3 times last week because it’s so easy to pull of and not to mention comfortable. Based on experience and feedback this romper suits the smaller chested the best. Ladies with a larger bust have mentioned some major tugging in that area. Every once in awhile my smaller chest takes the win. I would be devastated if this romper didn’t work because it’s going to be summer go to with a classic red lip. Be prepared to see this romper on my Instagram a lot. Speaking of which, go follow me @karissamariie
