It’s Brooklyn Baby

Brooklyn.

Once you go to Brooklyn, it’s hard to leave. It’s rich in culture, rich in history but most importantly, rich in community. I love the sense of friendship and “I got your back” vibes that I get when I walk the streets of Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn.

Pause. Hold the phone. I starting writing this before our vehicle was broken into and before we paid $350 to get the broken window repaired on it. So far, Brooklyn holds bad memories and I really hope something magical happens to change my mind about it. We’ve only been in NYC one week and  if I can be completely transparent with you, it’s been one of the worst weeks of my life. I heard it would take a little (or a lot) of transition and that you would be “initiated” into the city but gosh.. can you give a girl a break? Too many personal things have happened along with some financial hits in just one week and it’s too much for this girl to handle. The only thing that’s keeping me from going absolutely insane is the fact that I’m a mommy to an attention soaking puppy and a wife to a very hardworking, loving husband. They keep me going when I don’t have the will to.

I’m hoping things begin to look up very soon.

Lemonade In NYC

IMG_4438 IMG_4455 IMG_44442 IMG_44461

New York summers are unlike any other summer. Beautiful but HOT. HOT.HOT. Some ice cold lemonade and a sweet yellow dress will get your through it, trust me. I have faith that my hair and my skin will get used to the humidity even if I’m a complete mess at the moment. My poor hair, no matter the hairspray or dry shampoo, can’t last 5 minutes. This Yankees hat has been a lifesaver. I’ve noticed hair isn’t that much of a priority amongst New York women. If that’s the case, I know I will fit right in.

Back to the heat: The only way my makeup will survive the moist, hot subways is if I really set and even “bake” my makeup. Baking your makeup means: After foundation is applied, a thick coat of light powder is applied to the face (under the eyes, cheekbones, bridge of the nose, chin, and forehead for definition), and is left on to figuratively “cook” for 10 to 30 minutes into the skin from body heat.

The matte-er your makeup the better or else this humidity will evaporate it in seconds!

Same Girl, Different Zip Code

IMG_4482 IMG_4508 IMG_4463 IMG_4533 IMG_4525

It hasn’t really hit me that I now live in New York. I think for so many years I gave up on this dream. I’m so happy I never did. It’s not like NYC is it for me. It’s not like I’ll ever stop reaching for the stars. NO WAY. I’ve just conquered a huge accomplishment for myself but I’m not just going to sit back and let this be it. I’m keeping all of my dreams alive and pursuing more and more each day. I’m facing all of my fears left and right and if I can do it, you can do it. Never give up and stop doubting yourself-It’s wasted time. Work hard, be a good friend, love your family and things will fall into place for you. A little faith in yourself will go a long way.

About the look: I’m feeling like fall in the middle of this completely overwhelming summer heat. I cannot wait until our weather becomes more manageable because I’m melting. I’m looking forward to fall colors, romantic florals and sweater weather.

A Day In Chicago

IMG_43555IMG_4311 IMG_43441 IMG_4359 IMG_4313

I absolutely LOVED Chicago. Wyatt and I had never been but we heard such good things. It was beyond what we had imagined. I just wished we had more time to explore. We managed to stroll all up and down Michigan Avenue stopping by “The Bean” and The Art Institute. The humid hot weather was a shock for us coming from dry Denver but other than that we had a blast. We had a clear afternoon as far activities went so we obviously did a little shopping. We ate dinner at Lou Malnati’s where I devoured the best spaghetti I have ever had. (Yes, seriously: THE BEST SPAGHETTI.) We ended our night with a movie downtown and some delicious ice-cream. We originally planned on going to a Cubs game but we needed to get back to the hotel where we left Finely for the day.

Overall, we give Chicago a thumbs up. We can’t wait to go back to see the architecture, old buildings, Wrigley field and much more.

Street Glam

Since my announcement of moving to New York I’ve been rocking this hat more than usual. I can’t help but feel giddy when I wear it because it symbolizes more than just my hubby’s favorite baseball team. It symbolizes the city that I’m about to make my home and all the hard work and preparation of getting there. This was my last photo shoot in Denver so I thought wearing this cap would be fitting. I’m so excited to see my style evolve and grow since I’ll be pushed past my limits in a city that’s known to be one the greatest fashion cities in the world. I’ve been bored and restless with my outfitting but I’m about to embark on a whole new playing field. I truly cannot wait to be in my own skin surrounded by people who have the same passion as me.
